A View From A Greater Altitude
Mantas from Lithuania, Summer Semester 2015
So my summer semester in RheinAhrCampus has come to an end and what an exciting semester it has been. I was able to enjoy living in the peaceful town of Remagen located near the river Rhine, meet a lot of new people and make friends, not to mention all the visits to neighbouring cities, Bonn and Cologne as well as all the events that took place during the semester like “Rhein am Flammen” and all the evenings spent with the students at the Wohnheim.
Living in Remagen in this semester was a refreshing experience considering that like many other students, foreign or not, I was used to live in a big city and hearing cars and other city noises. On many ways this place is like a resort where you can find all the peace and quiet you need to concentrate while studying. And of course there are the nearby cities of Bonn, Cologne and Koblenz that can be reached in half an hour and where all kinds of events are an everyday thing.
I had a chance to participate in many interesting courses along with other international students as well as other German students and learnt a lot about different cultures around the globe from first hand communication with people that live or have been there. Also, these courses allowed me to improve my German skills and develop new skills and abilities that I hope to use in the future. Even though I did not speak a word of German before coming here, I took 3 courses in the Math & Technology Department in German and believe I did relatively well. The lecturers were friendly with helping on the course content, and I was glad I took up the challenge.
All in all I had an interesting semester here in Germany. I’ve met a lot of people, made new friends, learned a lot of useful things and gained a lot of experience. Also I’ve visited many new places and seen interesting new things. All that said, I think this was a successful semester abroad and I can’t wait to experience something like this again.
