A different journey of my life

Fayyaz from Azerbaijan, Summer Semester 2022

Hello! My name is Fayyaz Farajov. I am 22 years old and I am from Azerbaijan. In this story, I would like to share with you my experience from the Erasmus Program in Summer Semester at RheinAhrCampus in Germany.

I came to Germany during my internship period. It was a really hard decision to make because I knew that if I came to Germany, I would have to study after September in Azerbaijan. Actually, I took the right decision and I came to Remagen, Germany, for my semester abroad.

Before coming here, I was aware of most of the things, because I have a friend from Azerbaijan who had 2 semesters in Germany. But in any case, when you are leaving your country, your city, and your comfort zone, it’s difficult to adapt to that place, in which you have never been, could make you feel that way. From the beginning, I was already impressed. The way that they welcomed me was something that I couldn’t predict.

One of the main reasons I decided to participate in the Erasmus Program was that I wanted to improve my cultural awareness. I believe that RheinAhrCampus is a perfect opportunity to do it. Here I met a lots of people who came from different countries and different cultures. Day-by-day I made friends, we helped  each other, we made plans together and went to 4 different countries. We experienced many things together. Now I have friends from Albania, Canada, United States, Jordan, Georgia, Brazil, and India. After a few weeks in Germany, I realized that I didn’t know a lot about many other cultures, so now I am trying to learn their cultures as much as I can. It is true that when you talk with each other, you realize how many differences and similarities you can find between different cultures.

Finally, I would like to thank Sprachen/Internationales and everyone that helped me and gave me  the chance to be here these 5 months. For me, it was a chance to see something totally different, to realize and appreciate things. After you experience this “journey”, you will not want it to end. For you guys, if you have an opportunity to gain valuable experiences, take the chance! I guarantee that you won’t regret it.
