How the semester abroad defined my personality

Szymon from Poland, Winter Semester 2020/2021

Hello! My name is Szymon and I`m a 22-year-old student from Poland. In my experience report, I would like to share with you how my semester abroad at RheinAhrCampus in Germany looked like.
I came to Remagen in September 2020. It was really the most convenient time to start this Erasmus adventure due to the lack of hard pandemic restrictions.  This was my 7th semester, which was the last one in my study. I wanted to live this last semester abroad in order to get some inspiration and knowledge. This period was totally different in my life.  Many things happened, which defined my personality.

Firstly, I would like to share my impression of the journey. I was traveling to Germany by bus, so I was able to admire landscapes and city centers during my trip. It was surprising how much architecture was changing the more I was moving west.  In the beginning, cities closer to the border were almost shaped in the same way as ones in Poland. Later, when I reached Frankfurt-am-Main, everything was completely different. That was the moment I started to feel that I am in a different place.  Then my adventure had begun - commons trips, a social life with friends from different parts of the world. It was simple but also extraordinary. I remember one important thing that I learned on one of my first days in Remagen from Mr. Borgmann who was my lecturer. He taught me how I should perceive various aspects linked with being abroad. Basically, he stated: “The more we are going to invest in relations with other people, the more experience we will be able to gain” or, one of my favorite ones: “We cannot wait and expect that someone will come to us, we have to make first steps by participating, for example in particular extra classes”. I tried to live that way. I assigned myself to the Remagen Fightzone Club where I was able to make friendships with many Germans and Turks who shared the same interests as me. During my exchange I was able to visit Cologne, Bonn, Frankfurt am Main, Dusseldorf, and what is worth adding, planning better my time. What is really important, I taught myself how to plan and realize goals. This exchange was really important for me and after this adventure, I feel more mature than before. I hope one day I will visit Remagen one more time. Special Thanks to my Buddy Alina! Dankeschön!
In the end, I want to say thank you to all my friends and to the team of RheinAhrCampus. The exchange semester at RheinAhrCampus, Remagen, Germany, was a fantastic and memorable adventure.
