An Amazing and New Experience!

Carolina from Portugal, Summer Semester 2018

Hello everyone!

My name is Carolina and I am 20 years old. I study at ISCAP in Porto, Portugal and I am currently in my fourth semester of college. Since I arrived in Remagen, I have had new experiences and met people from very different cultures and that is something one can never forget!

When I first arrived, I didn’t really know what to expect. I was a bit scared because of the Internship as I had never done something like that before, and also the classes were a very different style from what I was used to. I think the internship really helped the international students to be closer to each other since we had to work together. I was the Facebook manager which helped me improve my leadership skills and also worked in the Logistics team during International week and that went really well! Our team was really united and supportive. I also helped plan our goodbye trip to Berlin, which was a lot of fun! Those are experiences that I will most definitely use in my future work life.

From the beginning, everyone at the Sprachen/Internationales office including the students were very helpful and welcoming, making me feel at home. Remagen may be a small city but it has such a peaceful environment, it is impossible not to like it. Walking along the Rhine is amazing, and everyone is really nice. It is also close to big cities with all the shops you may want.

Traveling was something that I tried to do a lot. I went to so many different countries it was amazing. Germany borders with a lot of countries and that is very practical when it comes to traveling because it is really cheap and close to a lot of places. Living in Portugal (that only borders Spain) I had never thought about it too much but living in such a central country really has its perks.

Lastly, I will always remember the friends that I made while in Remagen and for me, this was one of the most important things about studying abroad. They became my family here, helped me integrate and made me not miss home so much. Living at the dorms was like living in a big family home and I really enjoyed it. This it was my first time living alone and I feel like I have grown a lot but that would have not been possible without all the new friends that I made! From barbecues to trips and shared stories from different parts of the world it was really an unforgettable experience with the most amazing people I have ever met.
