History of Green Erasmus Concept

The concept of Green Erasmus was firstly initiated by the European Comission. With the aim of making Europe climate neutral by 2050, the European Comission created a set of initiatives called "The European Green Deal". These initiatives are also meant to be taken in the field of Education, with the idea to teach the new generation about sustainability issues and climate change. The origin of Green Erasmus concept lies exactly here and is aimed on the improvement of environmental sustainability specifically of the Erasmus+ Programme and contributiion into environmental sustainability across Europe.

The objectives of Green Erasmus:

1. To decrease the negative impact of the Erasmus+ Programme on environmental sustainability.
2. To raise awareness across the European higher education sector about the importance of sustainable internationalisation.
3. To empower student organisations to be the agents of change, pushing for improvements on the topic of environmental sustainability.

GreenErasmus-RheinAhrCampus is one of organizations who got inspired by the vision of Green Erasmus. With our initiatives, such as GreenMap and GreenChallenge, we want to contribute into achievement of the Green Erasmus Goals not only in Europe but also worldwide.
