Prof. Altay Ismayilov 2016

Prof. Altay Ismayilov 2016 (Qafqaz University, Azerbaijan)

Economics from an international perspective

Our Faculty of Business and Social Sciences was delighted to welcome Assoc.Prof. Altay Ismayilov, Director of the Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities at Qafqaz University / Azerbaijan, as a visiting lecturer in the context of ERASMUS+ mobility with partner countries (Key Action KA107).

The intensive Summer School in Baku, which took students and faculty members from RheinAhrCampus Remagen to Azerbaijan this summer, inspired Prof. Ismayilov to join our Faculty of Business and Social Sciences as a visiting lecturer. Thus, he was already familiar with our university and the wide range of cooperation activities between our institutions before his arrival!

Professor Altay Ismayilov, who gained international research and teaching experience in the context of ERASMUS Mundus and Fulbright before his stay at RheinAhrCampus, taught two electives in the field of Economics:

He liked the hands-on approach of the German-type universities of Applied Sciences and integrated many interactive elements into his classes from the first day. As his classes were taught in English, there were quite a number of international students from various countries and cultures - which contributed to lively discussions conducted from different backgrounds and perspectives.

The participants of the seminar were delighted to use this academic opportunity to internationalize their studies. Read a statement provided by one of the course participants (both classes!) below!

Besides broadening my economic knowledge, being able to attend Altay’s courses taught in English allowed me to learn the economic terminology in English. This is important for me because my degree is in translation. The course was held in an interactive seminar format, which allowed the teacher to adapt the contents to our knowledge. The fact of having students from different countries was great to understand the economic situation in different countries and to have different perspectives.
