Day 10

Day 10 - 15 February 2009

Eager for a Bed in Dublin?

Unprepared, easy-going student, 'First Day Abroad' incident, itching for Erasmus-long accommodation? We have something for those in trouble again.

Janina's real first-hand Dublin experience from yesterday favourably boosted our coffee-style brainstorming session about finding student accommodation on-the-spot, as quickly as possible. We quickly put together a simple flowchart on the room-selection process, surfed the internet as if we were looking for special websites supporting us with accommodation information, and did some fieldwork out there around impressing Trinity College campus, also taking photos of nice places we would prefer to live as students.

Our outcome presentation includes the flowchart, a draft with the challenges of decision making that can appear during the search for proper accommodation, while e-learning treasure's also getting on-line soon, so see you @ www.colombus-portal.eu!

Would You Hug a Finnish Girl!?

In 2005 I met a Chilean girl Kathy who stayed a year as exchange student in my high school. I was really eager to meet foreign people at that time so I started talking to this girl right away and helped her during her first days in our school. As most Finnish people are a bit shy when it comes to speaking English Kathy told me my help meant a lot to her and made it easier for her to understand Finnish people and make new friends. Since I met Kathy I’m more open to new friendships. It’s not that common in Finland to hug your friends when you see them but I don’t get confused anymore if someone does that because I got used to Kathy’s open way of meeting people. I now know many people from South America because Kathy introduced me to her friends who lived in Finland. The culture is very different to the Finnish culture but we shared love for the Finnish metal band Nightwish so there was always something to talk about. When Kathy returned back to Chile we stayed in touch by chatting on Messenger and Facebook.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Sunday 15.02.2009 Trivia in Kinley House Today at 8 p.m. our group had a great trivia night. Our language diversity manager, Reka from Hungary with her assistant Assja from Germany asked questions about countries, famous writers, typical behavior and stereotypes in some countries. We also had to guess some country flags and had to define countries from their shapes. We found out how good our geographical skills are. Our group was divided the into 5 teams with 4 participants in each one. At the end, group number one won the Quiz and got the prize from language diversity manager. It was a great fun and all workshop participants learned a lot about international environment in which we live.
