Here you can find all the necessary information for your studies at the university concerning the academic and language requirements, application deadlines and the application process.

Which academic requirements do I have to fulfill?

In order to study at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, you must have a university entrance qualification. This qualification proves that you have graduated from school with a certificate equivalent to the German Abitur. Without this qualification, you will not be allowed to study at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences.

In most cases, you must have studied at a recognized university (website in German only) in your home country or attend a German Studienkolleg in Germany before you begin your studies.

If you would like to attend a German Studienkolleg, most international students interested in studying at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences usually attend the Studienkolleg Kaiserslautern.

A portfolio must be submitted in order to study at the Artistic Institute of Ceramics and Glass. If the portfolio is approved you will be invited to the admission exam.

You should always make use of the information provided by the DAAD exchange service to find out more about the specific application requirements for your home country.

Do I have to begin my studies in the first semester?

If you have already studied the same or a similar subject, you may apply to enroll for a higher semester at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. The examination board in your department of study decides whether your previous academic achievements will be recognized and in which semester you will be enrolled.

What are the requirements for the Master’s programs?

In order to be accepted into a Master’s program at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, you must have a Bachelor’s degree in the same or a similar area of study. You may have to fulfill additional requirements. Please refer to the overview of study programs for more information.

Before beginning your studies at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, you must have completed one of the following exams:

International students who want to study at the Faculty of Business and Management (RMC) and the faculty of Mathematics and Technology (RAC) must have completed one of the following exams:

Important information: Please note that, in order to apply for the courses Civil Engineering and Water and Infrastructure Management you need to obtain a C1 language level. In exeptional cases vou can apply with a B2 language level. With expiration of the second full study semester you need to provide the Hochschule Koblenz unrequested with a C1 language level evidence (therefore get informed on our accepted language certificates for the Faculty of Business and Management and the Faculty of Mathematics and Technology).

International students who want to study at the Institute of Artistic Ceramics and Glass must have completed one of the following exams:

The Bachelor’s and Master’s programs at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences begin in the winter and summer semesters. 

All student applicants who did not receive their university entrance qualification in Germany or at a school with the German Abitur Examination should apply for the university via uni-assist.

International student applicants who have a certificate for an assessment test (German: Feststellungsprüfung) at a German Studienkolleg should apply via the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences’ online-portal. The same applies for exchange students from any of our partner universities.

Please have in mind to apply early. In case of missing documents you need to ensure to have enough time for handing them in. Incomplete applications were not considered in the application process!

Students with a Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Abitur) or  an Advanced Technical College Admission Qualification (Fachabitur) are entitled to study in a Bachelor course at the IKKG.
Likewise students with a recognized vocational qualification with subsequent professional experience of at least 2 years in a field corresponding to the vocational qualification are entitled to apply at the IKKG. An examination for the craftsman’s certificate also qualifies for an application at the IKKG.

Preliminary talks with the relevant professors are explicitly welcome and can be beneficial to answer many questions regarding the application procedure and course programmes. Please contact us in good time to make an appointment. In addition to the above mentioned requirements, the artistic aptitude is another key criterion for the admission to the IKKG.

 

Portfolio

Please submit a portfolio, which should provide information about your previous creative and artistic work and should include the following:

  • 20 drawings based on natural shapes and/or drafts of objects
  • Water colour paintings or other papers, where colours have been used
  • Photos of your works/sculptures made of ceramics resp. glass and other materials that are part of your creative work.
  • any additional depictions that are believed to allow some kind of conclusion on your artistic aptitude.

Please allow for any handling and transportation issues by not exceeding the DIN A 1 format. All pieces of work must be clearly marked with your full name and the year of their origin.


Please submit the portfolio together with the following documents:

  • Application for admission (Form to be requested at the IKKG)
  • Curriculum Vitae with recent photo
  • Copy of birth certificate or passport
  • Authenticated copies of certificates of the above mentioned qualifications and copies of other school leaving certificates or vocational qualifications.

 

Foreign applicants

Applicants for a place at the IKKG with international qualifications must have their documents checked by the UNI-ASSIST first. The complete application for admission must be sent to UNI-ASSIST at least one month prior to the application deadline: www.uni-assist.de.

Foreign students must prove that they are adequately proficient in the German language. To study at the IKKG the Zertifikat B1 of the Goethe-Institut is sufficient (alternatively the Test DaF with the result of 3 in all parts of the exam or DSH 1).

You will be informed in writing about the results of the pre-selection of portfolios and provided that the result is positive you will be admitted to the entrance examination. The portfolio remains at the institute until the entrance examinations have been finished.

Bachelor’s degree or a university diploma or a similar academic degree in an artistic, creative subject. In addition to the stated requirements an artistic aptitude is a crucial criterion for the admission to the Master programme.

Portfolio

To apply for the Master of Fine Arts Course please submit a portfolio (not exceeding the dimensions of DIN A 1 format), containing the following:

  • Photos of current pieces of work
  • Additionally, drawings or pictures produced by the applicant
  • Documentation of previous projects
  • Further evidence of your previous artistic work like e.g. exhibition catalogues

All pieces of work must be clearly marked with the full name and the year of their origin.

 

The portfolio should be submitted with the following documents:

  • Application for admission (Form to be requested at the IKKG)
  • Letter of motivation stating your intentions and ideas
  • Curriculum Vitae with recent photo
  • Copy of birth certificate or passport
  • 2 reports or references of professors / university lecturers
  • Authenticated copies of Bachelor’s Degree Certificate or copies of the Diploma (see requirements) and other school leaving certificates or vocational qualifications.

 

Foreign applicants

Applicants for a place at the IKKG with international qualifications must have their documents checked by the UNI-ASSIST first. The complete application for admission must be sent to UNI-ASSIST at least one month prior to the application deadline: www.uni-assist.de.

After portfolios have been reviewed selected applicants will be invited for an interview.

You will be informed immediately in writing about the decision on your admission to the study course Master of Fine Arts in Ceramic and Glass Arts.

On behalf of the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, uni-assist checks whether your application documents are complete and whether your academic qualifications fulfill the acceptance requirements for your studies. In order to use this service, applicants must pay a fee. From 1.03.18 applicants pay following fee: For the first application 75,00 € and for any following application 30,00 €. This regulation counts for any field of study wether it is at the same University or another.

  • A university entrance qualification from your previous schooling and any other documents you are required to submit in your home country to attend a university (officially certified copy)
  • If you have already studied at a university, please bring the degrees, your grade point average, or your transcripts from your previous university (officially certified copy)
  • Proof of German proficiency level (refer to part "Language requirements")
  • The page of your passport which lists all your personal information (officially certified copy)
  • Receipt showing proof of payment on uni-assist (officially certified copy)

Applicants from the PR of China, Mongolia, and Vietnam will also need a certificate from the Academic Assessment Office (German: Akademische Prüfstelle).

You will be informed by uni-assit about the evaluation result. Your application will be forwarded to us. The decision concerning your acceptance and enrollment is determined by the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. You will receive a request to enroll and your login-data for the online plattform to your registered mail address. The enrollment documents need to be handed in to Koblenz University of Applied Sciences before the deadline ends.
