Support and Advice

The International Office’s team – together with other information centers at the university – is responsible for assisting and advising the exchange students.

To make sure that your start in Koblenz runs as smoothly as possible, we are happy to provide you with a buddy. Your buddy is well familiar with the university and city. He or she is available to assist you in the following:

  • Picking you up from the train station and bringing you to your address
  • Assisting you in becoming situated and with the challenges you may be facing
  • Assisting you with the formalities of enrollment, opening an account and visiting the Immigration Office and the General Register Office
  • Showing you the university and advising you on your studies and courses
  • Introducing you to other students
  • Showing you around the city and answering all questions you may have

Please let your buddy know at least one week before your departure when you will be arriving in Koblenz.

Before the beginning of each semester, the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences offers an orientation week for exchange students. During this week, you will enroll at the university and, together with your buddy, fulfill all the necessary requirements, such becoming registered with the public authorities, opening a bank account, and taking out health and liability insurance. In addition, you will meet with your departmental coordinator to adjust your Learning Agreement and work on your schedule. Besides this, the International Office will organize a German crash course for all beginners and your buddies will show you around the campus and city.

Each department offers introductory events to inform you about the general rules and workflows at each department. We highly recommend you attend those events, as you will gain insight into the structures of the department and meet your professors, tutors and fellow students. For more information, please get in touch with your contact person.

ESN offers their membership card to all incoming students. With the card you have access to special student fares and discounts, such as VPN, Air/Bus travel and other interesting offers! The card can be obtained the beginning of each semester. It costs 10 €, a small passport photo is required. More information can be found here.

If you are interested, feel free to talk to ESN during the orientation program!
