Child and youth care
Study Programme Objective
Students acquire theoretical and practical skills to work with adolescents and young adults aged 12-27 in the field of educational support, youth work and in other school and extracurricular settings. The main objective of the study programme is to qualify graduates for professional educational and care work on an independent basis.
The programme leads to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Child and Youth Care (sandwich degree), with graduates becoming state-approved social educators and social workers.
The Bachelor's degree also forms the basis for a possible further qualification in a Master's programme.
Labour Market Qualifications / Career Prospects
As the programme is designed as a social work degree, graduates are qualified for the fields of social work. They will have a specialised qualification for the areas of residential, semi-residential and non-residential care as well as in the area of open youth work and family support. The fields of activity include educational counselling, social group work, educational support, foster child services, general social services and socio-educational family support, with further possibilities opening up in educational work in a day group and in an institution as well as intensive individual socio-educational support.
