Bachelor of Science

Biomathematics

Mathematics plays an increasingly important role in the life sciences and medicine today, and so does the Biomathematics programme:

From modelling disease progression in drug development to researching epidemics – mathematical concepts are everywhere. Applied Mathematics is anything but grey school math theory. Biomathematicians work creatively and solve biological and medical or even ecological problems as big data specialists. In the Biomathematics programme, you will become an expert in the evaluation of clinical studies or search for genetic patterns for new customised therapies. In addition to classical methods of statistics, stochastics, optimisation or numerics, machine learning methods and artificial intelligence are becoming ever more important in your Mathematics studies. If we've piqued your interest, take a look at how biomathematics is making life better and solving real-world problems for humanity.

Content of the Biomathematics programme:

Biomathematics is a modern mathematicsprogramme with applications in pharmaceutics and biotechnology, in clinical studies or in institutes for biometry and epidemiology, for example. In the Bachelor's programme in Biomathematics, you will study the fields of biology and medicine. You will learn to solve biological, medical or even ecological problems through mathematical models and software simulations. In your undergraduate studies, you will acquire the basic mathematical and statistical skills used to solve scientific problems. As the practical application is done on the computer, you will also learn programming and software skills. In addition to topics such as scientific computing or image processing, the study programme increasingly also covers data science and big data in businesses.
