Beautiful Moments at RheinAhrCampus

Beka from Georgia, Summer Semester 2017

Hello. I am Beka from Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi, Georgia. Here in Remagen, Germany, I study at the faculty of Business and Social Sciences at RheinAhrCampus.

I think that Erasmus was the major decision in my life. I was facing two choices: potential job in Georgia or Erasmus. I realized that I would always have chances to find a good job, but Erasmus… And now I am here.

From my and most of exchange students experience, Erasmus is not all about courses. I remember the cultural shock when I go out of the Cologne airport. I felt like a baby who has just experienced the life outside the ‘’comfort zone’’. New life had begun and I had to make huge adjustments in my life. After I faced so many problems in my life and solved them myself, I became independent and self-reliant.

The studying system here was more practical than theoretical, that I found more essential for my job career and personal life. For example, in International Business Simulation course, we, international students founded a company, organized a job fair event and helped refugees to integrate and find a job in Germany. During this period, through communication with refugees and excellent companions I became a good team player, attentive and more communicative.By the way, I was the Events Manager. Also during the Business English course I studied and implemented the SMART Goals about my personal improvement of English, that helped me to improve listening and grammar skills and to take a good result in TOEFEL exam, which was provided by RheinAhrCampus for free.

The internship in Sprachen/Internationales, RheinAhrCampus made me more punctual, because for Germans 1 minute late is ok, but 5 minutes is very late. While taking dozens of responsibilities, I studied on my mistakes and in summary I can say for sure that I became detail-oriented and self-confident during decision making processes.

I should mention the 30th Anniversary of Erasmus. My team of five people took the responsibility and were commercializing Erasmus program throughout the university during the International Week from 29th May to 2nd June. I created the poster, recorded the podcast and also became a star in the movie about Erasmus.

This was about jobs and project what I did, BUT the most important part was the relationships which I made. I remember the words of my supervisor in Sprachen/Internationales: “Beka, today do not miss the barbecue. Only thing you will remember in life are the people you met and beautiful moments you created”. I will never forget marvelous people with different backgrounds, religions, values, cultures and so on, with whom I experienced every single unforgettable minute; with whom I found a lot of skills in myself and became a new person; with whom I traveled, smiled, worked and found happiness in Germany and whose support I was feeling all the time. This intercultural environment became so familiar for me. This five months were worth for sure to “Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor… Explore. Dream. Discover”.

I want to express my gratitude to my home university, Erasmus department and Hochschule Koblenz, that gave me this wonderful chance.
