Teaching Staff Mobility - My Experience in Spain

Teaching Staff Mobility (TSM) is a great opportunity to learn more about a foreign university. There are three goals:

  1. teaching at the guest-university eight hours a week
  2. establishing and keeping up contact with the academic staff
  3. presenting the RheinAhrCampus Remagen to possible incomings.

In my case, I visited the University of Jaume I (UJI) in Castellon, Spain. I went to UJI in May 2002 for one week and in May 2003 also for one week. All faculty of the Economy/Marketing Department were very friendly and helpful with any question that cropped up. The language we used was English, also during the lectures. Unfortunately, Spanish students are a bit shy of speaking English, so it was difficult to get in touch with them more closely. In contrast, the meetings with the academic staff were very interesting; the comparison of both universities was our main topic. To sum it up, Teaching Staff Mobility is a very good programme in which you can learn a lot about academic and cultural life abroad.
