I had a wonderful stay at RheinAhrCampus

Mohammad from Jordan, Winter Semester 2012/2013

The main strategy and one of the goals that our home university tries to reach are to graduate highly experienced student. So, each of the German Jordanian University’s students should spend one year in Germany. During the first semester we can get new experience in our theoretical background. We have the opportunity to learn something new in our field of study at some of the German universities that we cannot learn in our home university. In addition, Germany is one of the biggest industrial countries worldwide. For example there are a lot of advanced laboratories in Germany that we can use for our experiments to apply what we learnt theoretically.

After all these experiences at a German university we should apply for an internship of at least five months as our practice semester. In this case, we can choose two different ways to do it, either in companies or in research centers. It depends on the students where they want to develop themselves. In research centers they can get experience in projects and research papers. These experiences might be suitable as a graduation project and bachelor thesis. Students might continue with their studies and do their Master and PHD thesis in the future. On the other hand, internships with a company will open their eyes to practical work and it would be useful for their future career after graduation. All of these opportunities we should think about when we started - in Jordan - to choose where we do want to go in Germany.

And I have chosen Hochschule Koblenz, RheinAhrCampus as my exchange year in Germany. As our professor recommended because they are very good in my field of study and I have the opportunity to do my Master thesis in applied sciences in the future. Besides it is a very nice town to go to. It was a good choice for me. I have learnt a lot of new things regarding my studies and I have gained new experiences regarding my personal life.

I found the surrounding environment very friendly and I could build German friendships very quickly. At the beginning, I faced some problems with the language. I mean in lectures; because I was not well prepared with the scientific German words. But I passed this problem and the only thing I needed was time. Most of the German professors are friendly and they let us explain things in English if we couldn’t do it in German. So the language was not a barrier at all. And our German advisor professor helped with the choice of courses. It is true that I found it hard to pass all of the exams but at least I tried my best and I gained new experience.

The team of Languages/International Affairs were available day by day and they really helped us in everything from the very beginning. Frau Korpp helped us in finding an apartment to make sure that we have a place to sleep before we come to Germany. They provided bicycles for most of us to use during the semester. They really deserve a big thank you. I recommend this university for the incoming students in the next semesters. I had a wonderful stay in Remagen.
