Doing a cooperative doctorate at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences
The completion of a Master's programme at a university of applied sciences (UAS) entitles graduates to enrol in a doctoral programme at a German university or a university of applied sciences with the right to award doctoral degrees. The details – such as the average grade, subject fit and other necessary qualifications and knowledge – are determined in accordance with the doctoral degree regulations of the universities with the right to award doctoral degrees.
In cooperative doctoral programs, professors at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences supervise doctoral students who have a primary advisor at another university in Germany or abroad that is authorized to award doctoral degrees. As of January 2026, 42 professors of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences are supervising 83 doctoral students in cooperation with 32 universities (4 of which are abroad).
On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Minister of Science Hoch granted independent doctoral rights for cross-university doctoral clusters at universities of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate (Press release from the Ministry of Science). More information will follow soon.
