B.A. Childhood Education+ (sandwich degree)

The Study Programme

The B.A. Childhood Education+ (sandwich degree) programme qualifies and professionalizes socio-educational specialists for the constantly growing and changing requirements in the field of childhood education (ages 0-12 years). The study programme is taught in Vienna. In addition to meeting the general access requirements in accordance with the Higher Education Act of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, candidates must provide proof of a suitable place of work based on a valid cooperation agreement between the supporting institution “Kinder in Wien” (KiWi) and the Department of Social Sciences at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences.
The on-campus courses at the KiWi Academy usually take place in four to five theory blocks per semester. The self-study periods are accompanied and supported via the online platform OLAT. Students spend the rest of their time at their place of work at a KiWi institution.

Study Programme Objective

The B.A. Childhood Education+ (sandwich degree) programme aims to find new ways of recruiting additional qualified specialists in view of the requirement for the academization of early childhood education specialists in cooperation with KiWi. The degree provides graduates with an in-depth understanding of children’s development, learning and educational processes as well as the ability to structure the living environments and living conditions of children and families, to support the social, political and cultural protection of children's educational processes, to recognise the risk and protective factors of children in endangered situations and to safely deal with child welfare risks.

Labour Market Qualifications / Career Prospects

After completing the programme, graduates are qualified to work in the fields of childhood education and childcare and to cooperate with families, taking into account the living environments and living conditions of children and families. The areas of work include daycare centres, day nurseries, after-school care facilities, integration assistance, open all-day schools and semi-residential and residential youth care. Upon successful completion of the programme, students are awarded state approval as social educators with a specialisation in “Childhood Education” in accordance with the Rhineland-Palatinate state law on the state approval of social workers and social educators (SoAnG).

The registration of foreign study programmes and their inclusion in the directory does not imply a determination of equivalence with Austrian degree programmes and the corresponding Austrian academic degrees. The study programmes and academic degrees are deemed to be those of the country of origin or domicile of the foreign educational institution.

With reference to Section 19 (8) of the Higher Education Act of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and Section 27a (1) no. 5 of the Austrian University Quality Assurance Act, Koblenz University of Applied Sciences guarantees that all students will be able to complete their studies in the event that studies are discontinued in Austria.
