Timetable summer term 2023

The provisional timetable can now be found below this section - changes regarding the times may still occur - but you will be informed about this under this tab. Our courses will start on 3 April 2023. Enrolment/registration for the courses is possible as of today via OLAT - please note the requirements for this.

The courses will continue to take place online for the most part. In addition to regular attendance at the zoom sessions, independent and intensive preparation and follow-up of the sessions is expected.

FAQ

Log in to OpenOLAT and select your desired course. Only when you have entered your student data will the enrolment be activated for you.

Most of our language modules are beginner courses and are designed for level A1. The exceptions are English, Spanish and French, which are offered in different levels depending on the level of proficiency. It is therefore very important that you choose the right level. The level is determined by previous learning experience with the language, whether through acquired knowledge of official courses and/or in an unconventional way through independent language learning or speaking with native speakers.

If you have not previously taken an English course at CCS, the placement test via OLAT is compulsory in order to enrol you in the appropriate level.

Most courses last for one semester. In the winter term between October and December or in the summer term between March and June, usually 12 weeks per term.
The exam takes place in week 12.

Almost all courses take place online via zoom.
The language modules consist of 1.5 hours per week via online teaching.

If the course times overlap with the lecture times, please contact us personally, as it may be possible to postpone the course to another time after consultation with the other course participants. It should be possible for everyone to take part in a course that is suitable for him/her.

Please note: The timetables are still provisional as the courses are dependent on the number of students and the availability of staff.

Regular attendance and participation in the lessons are essential when learning a new language so that you do not lose touch. If the course cannot be attended:

Inform the lecturer immediately.
Catch up on the material covered in class and prepare homework for the next class.
If necessary, arrange a meeting with the lecturer before the next lesson to clear up any uncertainties.

Students are expected to attend all course sessions regularly. Absence for two consecutive weeks is insufficient. If there is an intention to obtain the language certificate or to receive ECTS credit for the course, a formal request for absences from a course must be submitted.
Frequent tardiness in courses will not be tolerated. In case of time overlaps with own courses, the lecturer must be informed immediately in order to find a solution together, otherwise tardiness may be noted as absence.

When learning a foreign language, 2 course units of 90 minutes per week are not enough to make noticeable progress. In order to optimally adapt the further development of language skills to one's own interests and needs, independent preparation and follow-up work is recommended. At least 4 to 5 hours of independent self-study per week during the semester are a guide to successfully completing the module.

In most courses, homework is given weekly to review the last and/or prepare for the following lesson. It should be noted that homework is essential for class preparation to ensure active class participation for the lecturer.
In addition to homework, the use/exploitation of all available resources and opportunities for successful foreign language learning is highly recommended. Language café, tandem learning as well as multimedia online resources of the university offer good support here. Of course, the lecturer can also be consulted about these possibilities.

Depending on the type of course completed, different certifications can be obtained.
In the case of modules that are attended for the entire semester, 5 ECTS are awarded after successfully passing the examination.
If 3 or more modules of the same language have been successfully completed, the HS Language Certificate can be applied for as an alternative.
If you participate in one of our training courses, which take place 90 minutes per week, a certificate of participation can be issued. The prerequisite for this is that the lecturer evaluates their performance as successful. The same applies to all other workshops and weekend seminars.
